A Small Portland Breakfast Spot That Grew Out Of The Neighborhood
Little Griddle started in 2017 in a tiny spot on Fremont. The kitchen was about the size of a walk-in closet, which is how the name “Little Griddle” came to be. Even out of the 600-square-foot space, it quickly became a local breakfast favorite.
Founder Judd Harris lived next door to the original location and would wake up every day to make eggs for the community. From the beginning, Little Griddle felt less like a big restaurant idea and more like a neighborhood place that grew out of the block. Small space, busy mornings, good breakfast, regulars coming back. That was the whole thing.
Over time, Little Griddle became especially known for its pancakes, benedicts, incredible biscuits, and side salads served with many breakfast entrees.
In 2022, Little Griddle opened a second location on Hawthorne in the old Cup & Saucer space, a Portland breakfast icon with its own history. The goal was to keep the same feeling: comfortable, unfussy, and built around breakfast people actually want to eat.
Little Griddle also welcomes artists to submit their work. The restaurants keep wall space available for local artists to display and sell their pieces, and Little Griddle does not take a cut.
If you are interested in submitting your art, please reach out by email at admin@littlegriddlecafe.com. Include a few photos of the pieces you would like to hang, the prices you would like to list them for, and your Instagram, website, and phone number if you have them. The Little Griddle team will review submissions and get back to you if the work feels like a fit for either restaurant.
